Joseph McDonough is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of New York. He holds a Master’s in Social Work from Hunter College. Joseph is a graduate of the Urban Family Institute’s Family Therapy program which was run by the Ackerman Family Institute. He has had training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing , Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Creative Arts Therapy. Joseph has worked as a social worker for over 30 years mostly with people who have chronic health issues. He has had experience with working with people with varied backgrounds including teenagers, seniors, families, and young adults. For most of his professional career Joseph has been a clinical supervisor and has supervised MSW and MHC students from many colleges while they were studying for their degree. Joseph’s practice has been to help his clients to become the best person that they can be from a strength-based perspective. Clients explore what is preventing them from moving forward in their lives and to help them to develop the skills in their life to achieve their goals. One of Joseph’s main interests is being an avid board gamer and he uses playing games as therapy for developing social skills, confidence, and creativity. In supervision, Joseph helps students to develop the skills they need to develop to become effective clinicians.
